Raise for Autism Campaign
“Awareness to Action”
This campaign addresses the realities faced by children and families affected by autism — from stigma to lack of therapy access.
Phase 1 (2025):
Launched during World Autism Awareness Day with a 5KM Autism Awareness Walk from Garden City Mall to the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE). The event was graced by H.E. Rachel Ruto, the First Lady of Kenya, and H.E. Njoroge Muchiri, Nairobi’s Deputy Governor.
Phase 2 (2026):
Under the theme “Awareness to Action,” focuses on advocacy, education, and access to therapy.
Objectives:
- Create awareness and reduce stigma.
- Train caregivers and ECDE teachers on autism inclusion.
- Establish free community therapy centers.
- Acquire a Mobile Autism Assessment & Data Truck.
- Empower parents with home therapy skills.
- Conduct an autism survey across counties.
- Establish Kenya’s first Autism Research & Resource Centre.
Why It Matters:
Autism affects about 4% of Kenya’s population. Despite legal recognition under the Persons with Disabilities Act (2025), access to therapy, data, and inclusive education remains limited.
VNT bridges these gaps through education, intervention, and community inclusion.
